What is Pilates?
Pilates was developed in the 1920s by Joseph Pilates. It’s a unique exercise system incorporating floor work (matwork) and spring-based apparatus (reformer, cadillac and chair) that delivers tried and tested results. To this day, it is still helping people change their lives for the better.
The Pilates system focuses on teaching us through the guiding principles of breathing, correct alignment, concentration, control, coordination and precise movement. This unique system brings attention to the quality of movement during exercise as well as in our everyday life.
The method is an effective system to strengthen your core, although the exercises work in other areas of your body as well. Low-impact, it is perfect for mental and physical conditioning, along with injury prevention and rehabilitation.
Pilates helps:
Improve and prevent poor posture
Increase core strength
Increase muscle tone and strength
Improve balance
Support health through pregnancy and birth
Increase joint mobility and stability
Improve flexibility and range of movement
Reduce the risk of injury
Build bone density and prevent falls
Rehabilitate following injury
Increase body awareness and coordination
Enhance vitality, stamina and performance.
This list is truly endless.
